As part of the elections May 2019 Alton Branch created a manifesto to support their campaign to explain more about how they see the priorities for the town and people living there.

ALTON LABOUR’S PLEDGES TO YOU

ACCOUNTABILITY
To hold regular surgeries and keep you informed of important issues that affect Alton at the earliest possible stage.

REPRESENTATION
To get involved in local issues YOU care about. We will listen and want to make Alton a better place for you and your families.

SERVICES
To make our best endeavors to protect the services you use by campaigning for increased funding for education, health and social care, policing and other front line services, while holding the councils to account for the funding they get and where it gets spent.

ALTON AND ITS VILLAGES Labour’s Manifesto For The People Of Alton

All your Labour candidates in the Alton Town Council and East Hampshire District Council elections on 2nd May 2019 are local people living in Alton and its surrounding villages. We have all been involved in local campaigns on issues that we know are important to so many of you: cuts to vital town bus services; saving Alton Community Centre funding; and protecting the town’s recycling centre and Treloar Meadows.

We also know from our many conversations on the doorstep that many of you feel ignored by your councils and badly let down by the lack of any meaningful consultation on so many key issues: new housing developments and the need for expanded supporting services and infrastructure; Butts Bridge, with its ensuing traffic chaos; the new “Leisure” Centre replacing the old Sports Centre; the future of Treloars Meadows; and the Coors site and new community facility.

Furthermore, over 90% of local people we’ve spoken to say they don’t even know who their local Councillor is and have never met them – in four whole years! We don’t think this is good enough – you deserve better. We care passionately that you are represented and that the views of Altonians are heard at every level of local government. We can change the political landscape at Alton Town Council and East Hampshire District Council for the better.
